Unions commence media round on B.T.L. Shares

Philip Castillo

Castillo and Palacio have been doing media rounds this week to sensitize public officers as well as the various unions and the general public about the types of projects that would satisfy the criteria for monies being disbursed. According to them, there must be in place a sustainable mechanism that will allow them to provide funding to union members and beneficiaries through a loan facility.

Philip Castillo, Trustee, Public Sector Workers Trust

“It is not benefits on an individualized basis…if benefits are paid out, it wouldn’t exist.”

Marleni Cuellar

“Does the trust has any authority to…”

“The trust…..pay back something to the trust. The monies that we hold in Scotia Bank are…in getting the trust moving we have had to use monies to operate and get these things moving…ensuring that whatever it is that we are doing…so those are the things that we have been working at.”

Due to the type of trust and the Amended Trust Act, the Trust comprises of five persons: The Public Service Union and the B.N.T.U. serve as settlers for the trust and the presidents of the B.N.T.U., the P.S.U. and the Police Association  are trustees. While the nurses, police and the B.D.F. are beneficiaries, they do not have unions, but associations.
