Another Government Hilux – Gone Without a Trace!
It made the news in mid-July when the European Union gifted the Ministry of Health with eleven brand new, late-model Toyota Hilux pickups. The vehicles were to be immediately deployed in the districts to assist in the ministry’s surveillance and prevention activities where vector-borne diseases like dengue are concerned. Well six weeks after, the vehicles are in the news again – or at least one of them is, after a thief made off with it over the weekend. It appears that the Ministry of Health assigned one of the vehicles to the Western Regional Hospital. And that’s where it was, parked outside the administrator’s office, when it disappeared. We are told the theft was discovered this morning and reported to the Belmopan Police. This is the third government Hilux stolen in Belmopan including one belonging to Mayor Simeon Lopez. Authorities believe that the thieves are taking the vehicles across the border into Guatemala. On a side note, News Five has been reliably informed that of the eleven vehicles donated for use in surveying and preventing vector-borne disease, one has been assigned for use by C.E.O., Doctor Peter Allen, and another is assigned to the Ministry of Health.
Shouldn’t this news piece be in the comedy section? Or is it still classified as crime?
It is obvious that something is seriously wrong with this Ministry. Again and again issues arise. And they normally say that the tone is set at the top! Imagine then what is happening in the other Ministries.
This is the second time a vehicle has mysteriously disappeared from the compound at WRH.
