City Resident Sentenced to Five Years

Late this evening, forty-three-year-old Luis Gordon, a resident of Amara Avenue who attacked and chopped his own sister in September of last year, was this evening sentenced to five years imprisonment for grievous harm upon Janelle Gordon Gilharry.  His trial for grievous harm concluded before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith where Gordon was unrepresented.  The Chief Magistrate found him guilty and sentenced him to five years imprisonment. Gordon claims he acted in self-defense when he chopped his sister but, in the view of the Chief Magistrate, his action was not in self-defense since he wounded his sibling during the time she went to the aid of her husband, Roberto Gilharry.  The chopping incident occurred on September sixth, 2013, at a family property on Amara Street.   According to the testimony of Gilharry and his wife, they had a friend over to spend the night and the friend parked a vehicle in the yard and that’s when her brother, Gordon, became upset with them, and that he told them that no visitors were allowed in the family yard.  Janelle showed to the court her finger which has been left paralyzed from the chopped injury that she can no longer use in the same manner anymore.  Gordon is a deportee who was send home from the United States a year earlier prior to the chopping incident.

Gordon still has an attempted murder charge pending before the court upon his brother-in-law Roberto Gilharry which has already been committed for trial at the Supreme Court at a later date.
