American Muslim Charged for Immigration Offences
A Muslim American national who has been living illegally in Belize for more than two years was detained on Tuesday evening while trying to board a flight to Atlanta, Georgia. He is seventy-one year old Mohammad In Ishmael Es-Sudan. After spending two nights in lock down at the police station, he was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where he was read a single count of Failure to Comply with the Conditions of a Visitors Permit. Es-Sudan entered Belize in May 2012 via the P.G.I.A. and was granted a month’s visa and did not extend the entry permit. In court, Es-Sudan pleaded guilty to the immigration offense. Since he is a first time offender, Magistrate Dale Cayetano imposed a non-custodial sentence and fined him one thousand dollars to be paid immediately. The Immigration Department also made an order to the court for his removal. Es-Sudan will be sent to the US after he pays the fine or serves a prison term. The US national claims he was heading home to be with his ninety year old mother who lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

The man was departing Belize!!! If he had not committed a felonious crime, let him pay a summary fine and be off with him. Why clog the court system with a foregone conclusion. We really need to modernize all our laws to expedite justice.
