ComPol Whylie Assures More Boots on the Ground

Allen Whylie

At the top of the newscast, we told you of the three murders and shootings that transpired in a span of seven hours on Wednesday. The violence has put the police on alert mode. Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie, who was also at the head table during today’s press conference, gave his assurances to the Belizean public that all efforts are being made by the Belize Police Department to bring the existing spike in gun violence under control.  Eastern Division, says Whylie, will lead the charge in addressing the ongoing issue of retaliatory shootings.

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“Since yesterday, as the P.M. indicated and it is out there, we had several incidents of shootings across the city which resulted in a number of individuals being injured and also resulted in the death of three citizens. We want to of course express our condolences to the deceased family and I want to reassure the families as well as the public that the Belize Police Department is on top of this situation. We’ve indeed and the OCED will elaborate a little bit more on a number of things that were done yesterday. Eastern Division has an operational team, a strike force, the quick response team. We’ve looked at their numbers, we’ve beefed up their numbers. They are our immediate response along with the gang suppression unit to deal with these levels of criminal activity, in particular the shootings, the gangs and the murders. I want to reassure that the quick response team, the strike force, the GSU will be in the face of these players that continue to plague our society, in particular in Belize City.”

You have been saying this same garbage for 5 years now and after 5000 murders we are in the same situation and in fact worse so stop talking garbage this pm and gov are impotent on crime and a lot more belizeans will be murdered unless the hanging penalty is brought back and we need to get rid if this impotent incompetent corrupt pm and gov.

Belize has 5 officers per 1000 citizens. And they still are ineffective. The USA has 2.5 per 1000, Canada 2 per 1000. More boots on the ground will not help lousy policing.

It’s not just this weekend’s murders it is all of them including the ones that will happen this week and next week. How many more Belizeans have to die?
