Global Call to Action Conference on Women’s and Girls’ Financial Health

Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington will be addressing the General Assembly of the United Nation as in the coming days. A top heavy delegation is already in New York but today the Special Envoy for Women and Children, Kim Simplis Barrow took center stage in a side event. She hosted what is referred to as the First Ladies’ Global Call to Action Conference on Women’s and Girls’ Financial Health. According to a release from her office, there is global concern over the financial health of women and girls and the conference was used to increase access to capital for them.  Keynote speaker at the event this morning was Joyce Banda, former President of the Republic of Malawi and founder of the Joyce Banda Foundation International.  At the conference, the Special Envoy proposed the establishment of a First Ladies Global Fund, a platform through which women of influence can come together to create and expand global opportunities available to other women and girls..
