Conorquie Family Responds to Thompson’s Sudden Retraction of Statement on Danny’s Killers
The nationality of the men who ambushed Conorquie remains a mystery to Belize’s Foreign Minister and to the politicians in the Ministry of National Security. But there is little doubt in anybody else’s mind that the killers were Guatemalan bandits. In fact, they fled across the Guatemalan border, five kilometres away, following the murder. There is some anger today at what is being called the blatant cowardice of government following the forced retraction of a comment by police officials. At the funeral of Conorquie on Sunday, Assistant Superintendent Dinsdale Thompson told the gathering that the police had concluded their part of the investigation, and had determined that the murderers were Guatemalan. By Monday morning, Thompson’s political bosses had forced him to retract that statement, and for Danny’s family and friends, that is unacceptable.
Jennifer Conorquie, Aunt of Danny Conorquie
“It’s very disturbing. It’s like children in Standard Six. I mean he said it. He knows what he felt, He knows what he knew. The way how I look at it is that he saw everybody at that funeral and it was in him because he was standing there like he was thinking and when he went up and said that my sister said mein I feel good when he seh dat. But on the other end I seh he dead…because I knew what would happen to him, because I knew they would let him retract it. As they all seh that they are still investigating it but I know, you know, everybody else know…who else come from out that bush? Guatemalans…nobody else! So as I said before I’d like to say thanks to Mr. Thompson and the whole San Ignacio Police force. And what is said is said. You can’t take it back.”
Audrey Matura-Shepherd, Activist
“My aunt always used to tell me there are three things that you cannot take back – time that has passed, an arrow that has been spent and words that have been spoken. The fact that they made him add something else does not remove the fact that those words were uttered and are forever engrained in somebody’s IPhone and some DVD somewhere or some camera. So it doesn’t matter what they say. I think the government forcing him to take it back, or his superiors under the instruction of whatever powerful minister or official forcing him to take that back is not a reflection of him. It is a reflection of them…how coward they are and how fearful they are. You mean he can’t say that they are Guatemalans? Hello? Are they special?”
According to Jennifer Conorquie, she has spoken to Prime Minister Dean Barrow. She and Danny’s mother are to meet with him soon. She confirmed that there was discussion of financial support for the family, but told News Five that she preferred to leave those details private.
Please tell me when will this government stand up for what is right. When will they take a stand of this criminal activity that is getting out of hand. The biggest problem was independence, Belize was not ready to protect itself, without the help of the British government. When theBritish soldiers were on the border these things did not happen so often and so boldly.
Belize government have to stop being friemds with the guatemalan government and take a hard line stand to protect the country. If tourisim stops this country is dead.
DO SOMETHING SOON MR PRIME MINISTER.
Yes Sir! Even as a younger boy, my Mother and I sat down and talked about Belize not being ready for independence. With sovereignty , just like independence in real life, comes a lot of issues and we have to be mature and responsible. Yes, England raped a lot of its countries but there was better education, less crime, they wielded a mighty stick militarily. Needless to say, we have a present government full of illiterates and thieves and cowards. They look so small at these meetings with Guatemala and Sedi and his brother don’t have a clue. I’ve said several times before that they still haven’t been forthcoming of the results with this territorial disputes. They will blame PUP three years from now when it boils over. Funny that they know how to thief and associate with thugs but majority of the diplomacy are done by known PUP supporters. Dean had no choice but to hire them. Who would he have sent? Boots, Finnegan, Faber? Please! Recently, one of their principal policy maker and negotiator in Dean’s office quit, Robert Murphy S.J. He got tired of them. This crowd gotta go!!!!
