Are Confiscated Horses Related to Conorquie’s Murder?
Very few of the stories aired following the murder of Tourism Police Special Constable have touched on the five horses which were tethered at the Caracol Site on September twenty-fifth, 2014. Those horses, which you saw in the video put together by a tourist and aired earlier, were allegedly seized from xateros during a raid on September twenty-fourth, the day before Danny Conorquie was executed. There is some speculation that the brazen attack on the Special Constable was in retaliation for the seizure of the horses, or some incident which occurred during that seizure. At this point, however, that is just speculation. The only thing that is fact is that horses were seized during an operation.
Rafael Manzanero, Executive Director, FCD
“There was sort of a detention done on horses the day before. But that was really more the B.D.F. who had just come out from a link up. In other words, we weren’t there, FCD at that particular moment. But from what we understand , there was the detention of some five horses that occurred the day before the incident.”
Not surprisingly, official Police comment was scarce today, but we have been able to confirm that Police are looking closely at the horses, and the equipment on those horses, as they continue their investigation. They are also looking closely at the expended shells taken from the scene, and finally…we can confirm that Police are attempting to establish contact with the B.D.F. officers who were part of the operation in which the horses were seized.
“It is believed that Belizean soldiers in the area had stolen or confiscated 5 horses from peasants in the area, and the peasants retaliated. This is the first time a Belizean has been killed in the area by suspected nationals from Guatemala. Over the past decade some 11 Guatemalan peasants have been shot dead by Belize’s security forces.” -Belize TV (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFb8JKhg3ovQ_5xw1p6F9Pw)
