Guatemalans send Protest Note to Belize in respect of demonstration held at Guatemalan Embassy
A delegation headed by Foreign Ministry C.E.O. Alexis Rosado is currently in Guatemala meeting with Guatemalan authorities. Rosado is accompanied by Opposition Senator Lisa Shoman and representatives from the Belize Defense Force. The purpose of the visit is to defuse tensions in the relations with Guatemala. Earlier this week, we have learnt, the Guatemalans sent a protest note to Belize in respect of the demonstration held on October third, in front of the Embassy of Guatemala. Led by political aspirant Gilroy Usher Senior, the small group egged the embassy, protesting the execution of Special Constable Danny Conorquie at the hands of Guatemalan bandits. While there have been informal meetings, formal negotiations with Guatemala were suspended when a Guatemalan was killed earlier this year in the Chiquibul, so the meetings have now resumed. Guatemala believes that the stoning of the embassy does not bode well for the relations. Earlier this week, the leader of the opposition Francis Fonseca disassociated the P.U.P. from the protest even though it was led by a P.U.P. aspirant. We note that both the Prime Minster Dean Barrow and the Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington said that Belizeans have a right to protest.

there is no way to diffuse tensions with the Guats. They have no respect for our border or any of the conventions of international law. Poachers, border jumpers, theives, murderers, smugglars, beggers, thieves, & liars…have I missed anything?
Guatemalans don’t like a protest at their embassy? Well, Belizeans don’t like murders at their archaeology sites. Good luck to Rosado and the team. Without any military might, and lukewarm response from national leaders, Belize has to rely on diplomacy more than some other countries might.
We don’t need military might!!! We need 200 of the 1700 soldiers we have, to deal with the problem, IMMEDIATELY! That is a resource WE HAVE! I’m not implying war. I mean, station these guys on the border, and simply guard and defend our borders, THATS ALL
