Robbers Target Government Departments

Two government agencies were robbed over the course of the weekend. The fisheries department is reporting that sometime between five-thirty p.m. on Friday and seven-fifty Monday night, its offices located on the second floor of the Fisheries Department Building on Princess Margaret Drive in Belize City was broken into. About ten thousand dollars in electronic devices including three laptops, a nexus tablet, a GPS and two external hard drives were stolen by the perpetrators who gained access through the rear of the building. The burglars got away with the items despite the presence of watchmen on the compound. According to fisheries officials, they are currently looking at protocols to put in place to prevent another break in.

There was another break in…this time at the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation on North Front Street. On Monday morning, a KBH supervisor informed the police that at around four a.m., he was called and informed by his security officer that someone had apparently burglarized the Housing and Planning Department building. The burglar or burglars entered the building by removing four glass louvers from the window on the west side of the building. Police are looking into both cases.

When will all of those companies and GOB hiring individuals from these security companies (as political favours) realize that this will be the trend? The security companies are hiring criminals and not doing proper screening with their employees. These same employees then orchestrate these robberies themselves or give inside information and security procedures to help these burglars rob the same organizations they are being paid to secure!
