P.U.P. Cayo North Area Representative Steps Down
Tonight, there are confirmed reports that P.U.P. Cayo North Area Representative Joseph Mahmud has thrown in the political towel. Those reports indicate that Mahmud handed in his resignation to the party’s secretariat as early as last week. It’s a significant blow to the People’s United Party going into municipal elections in less than six months from now. Mahmud is considered fresh blood in the party, an up and coming first time politician who staged an upset over the U.D.P.’s Salvador Fernandez in March 2012. So why would Mahmud step down after only two years? Well, late this evening we received an official response of sorts to our queries via text. It’s from P.U.P. Leader Francis Fonseca, who states that Mahmud, “sent a letter resigning as Standard Bearer. He remains the Area Representative and offered personal reasons for his decision. He has committed to support the Party fully in finding a replacement and moving forward.”
