…Says OW Police Are Covering Up Murder

The family has since retained the services of attorney Audrey Matura-Shepherd who told the media today that the Logans are being given the runaround by the police department and that there may be a cover-up afoot.  She says that while the final recourse is the Professional Standards Bureau, the family is considering its legal options if the department continues to drag its feet on the matter.

Audrey Matura-Shepherd

“Logie, up to that time the Chinese man was about to do the last shot, begged the Chinese man not to shoot him and tried to keep his arms up to protect his face.  The police officer did not intervene.  At the last shot then the Chinese man then kicked Logie in his face, in the area of his mouth and nose about five times and tried to shoot one more time but the gun snapped and so he ran into his shop and closed the burglar bars of the shop.  The police at the scene then got on his phone.  That is then a state sanctioned execution.  That was not an off duty police officer, it was a police officer in his uniform.  And so we will continue the investigation.  The last stop that Mr. Logan will be doing now will be to go to the Professional Standards Bureau with the hope that he will get some results there and not the push around that he has been getting from the police department.  Based on everything he will then proceed if needs be to bring a constitutional motion against the police department and government for failure to intervene, for one of the officers to intervene to prevent the murder of his son.”

According to Leslie Logan Sr., the death of his son has not been recorded since personnel at the General Registry were unable to determine the coroner’s signature on his death certificate.

Just because of this kind of lawyer we have in this country robbers always get away with being charged. And the father is a retired inspector , I wonder why don’t him teach his son the right way other than when things done happen and cry about his son .

  2. Islander says:

The justifiability of any shooting can be argued for decades without a solid conclusion.

BUT YOU CANNOT ARGUE WITH THE FACT THAT IF MR. LOGAN WAS NOT OUT THERE ROBBING PEOPLE AT GUN POINT, HE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE.

The moral of the story is…. If you do not want your children shot dead and the justifiability of such shooting argued on national TV, teach them not to TIEF…

Audrey can go ahead with her case, but there will be no public sympathy. Too many of our merchants–of all races, ages, and both sexes–have been murdered by these holdup guys. Belizeans have had enough. Shocking to find out that this robber’s father was a police officer. Just goes to show that not even the police can control their sons’ behaviour. I think public support will go to the business owner and not the family of the lawless street youth on this one. Who knows which way the courts will go. Pretty clear whose side police are on and I for one, support their decision not to bring charges.

  4. Belizean Pride says:

I beg you Mrs. Audrey to stop this idea of fighting against society cleansing. Instead of trying to help society for a better life. mein you go ahead to defend a scum that was killed while he robbed a store owner. Empty gun or not he’s deeds were not of a good one, And the main point here is that we are tired of this situation where scums end up being the victim than the real victim. If that’s the case then I guess we should all start to robbed each other and hire lawyers like you because definitely we’ll win the case even do we’re on the wrong side. Am I right?

  5. Sonya says:

Chiney should shoot her in her derrière

  6. Dairo says:

shame for that lawyer and the family…i should burry my head on the ground !!!!!

  7. Orange Walkenio says:

A life was lost and it is a pity this young man took that road. Clearly and according to the law, this was no self-defense. But sometimes the law fails all of us. So you are telling me, that any of these persons could go rob me(with a gun, as was this case) and I, the shop owner cannot retaliate. That if i want to use my gun, I have to be sure my life is threaten. That is total NONSENSE! Some times we haftu take drastic measures to fix things because the law cannot solve the problem. In some places, they have public lynching. It some countries they have “limpieza” (cleansing) because the people are tired of the status quo. In this case, if this person was not stopped immediately, this person would have continued to terrorize the people of Orange Walk. If the person would have been caught, it would have been a lengthy process and nearly impossible one to convict the person. I dont know if i am wrong, but after the killing of this person, the store robberies have decreased. Mr. Logan Sr. needs to return to New York to take care of himself. If he would so concerned for his son, he should have taken him to the US with him or parent him better. Am sorry for the loss of Mr. Logan but this should be a closed case. Ms. Matura Shepherd, this is one case you should not have taken. Fight for the other causes.

  8. Kjuan leal says:

So what is justifiable homicide? And when is it not justifiable homicide?
This incident can closely be compared to what happened back in April of this year at the farm 3 miles out of Carmelita Village where Mr. Edision Johnson shot the two thieves on his farm when they were caught stealing on his property. This Chines man shot and killed this young man and was not even charged but Mr. Johnson was charged with 2 counts of murder. The chines man was issued with a notice of intended prosecution. An the police say that it was in self defense but in Mr. Johnson’s case they said he used lethal force. What is the difference in the eyes of the Belizean public they were shooting criminals. An now Mr. Johnson is the on remand and this chines man is a free man. So he is a hero and our Belizean is the criminal for defending his life and property. The people of this country should be in outrage and be ashamed of how the justice system protect the rich and how the poor people of this country suffer. In my opinion if the chines man is free so should Mr. Johnson. This is very unfair and I think the justice system is in place to defend the rich, the government and the rich, and only the poor Belizeans suffer.

  9. melinda says:

i AGREE with all said above. The chiney should now shoot matura!! Loagy shot and killed a chiney in a robbery by riverside three years ago. we all know, and his dad knew yet he no hand up his son. Both of them are thieves alike

  10. Orange Walkenio says:

interesting information Melinda…i wonder if it is true? and Kjuan Lean, no charges should be levied on this store owner and neither on Mr. Johnson. Sadly, Mr. Johnson is still in jail.
