Mega-Million Cruise Port Construction Underway
Remember Norwegian Cruise Line and their mega-tourism project on Harvest Caye. Well, the last time we heard, the government sub-committee that was set up to deal with the project had given the green light for the development to proceed. Well, the NCL project is back in the news tonight. As far as we were able to ascertain, dredging has already taking place on the island and the project is set be completed by the start of the tourism high season in 2015. News Five spoke with Minister of Tourism, Manuel Heredia Junior who confirmed that work is ongoing and that G.O.B. is keeping a close eye on it.
Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism
“On the Harvest Caye project which is on its way now, I believe that we are moving very cautiously. The committee that coordinates this project is looking carefully, monitoring what is happening and I believe that this particular project that we are seeing here today will definitely impact the Norwegian project. The Norwegian Project will definitely impact the lives of these artisans that live along the archeological sites that work along those areas. And that is the reason why we were entertaining this project because we believe that it will bring a better standard of living in that area and it will uplift the livelihood of the artisans and people working and living in those areas.”
Why is it taking so long?
