Trio Arraigned on Immigration Offences
Three persons, a Guatemalan and two Cubans, were handed over to the Immigration Department earlier today after the Cubans were found in Belize illegally. The Guatemalan came into Belize legally and aided and abetted the two Cubans to enter Belize illegally through the banks of the Mopan River. The trio comprises of Cuban nationals, twenty-eight year old Isis Marie Garcia and fifty-four year old Albert Jorge Dominguez Diaz, as well as Guatemalan national, Saul Ernesto Lopez Cardona. They appeared before Magistrate Dale Cayetano and all three pleaded guilty. Garcia and Dominguez were jointly charged with one count each of illegal entry while the Guatemalan was charged with two counts each of aiding and abetting the two Cubans, Garcia and Dominguez were fined one thousand dollars each while Lopez was imposed fines totalling three thousand dollars or in default a prison term of twelve months. After meeting the fines, removal orders were granted. The trio was then handed over to Immigration Department.
