P.U.P. Leader Shocked At Allegations
P.U.P. Party Leader Francis Fonseca was present at the memorial today to give support to the family. The release of the recording came as a surprise to him as well, since he hadn’t been warned about the allegations. We asked him for his reaction after the memorial.
Francis Fonseca, P.U.P. Leader
“Shocked, shocked and sadness. Shocked and sadness. I am shocked because I didn’t know exactly what would be said and sadness because I certainly don’t want us to ever travel that road in Belize. We have had a long great history of peace in our country as it relates to politics. We are proud of the fact that we change governments without a drop of blood. Yes we get feisty and fight hard, but we do so with respect. At the end of the day we can continue to work together and I never, ever want Belize to travel that very dangerous road for which there is no return of political violence. And I certainly hope that that is not the case here in Orange Walk with the death of Don Ramon Cervantes.”
According to Fonseca, it is a private family matter at this point, and he will only get involved in his official capacity if the family requests it.
