Victim’s Sister Awaits Promised Assistance from AG Elrington
Hunter, who is originally from Nicaragua, lived in Belize for the past nine years; she leaves behind a seven-year old child and two sisters and a brother. Her sister, Ersi, says that Elisa’s last words to her were a plea to take care of her daughter. According to Ersi, while the minister did come to visit Elisa on the day of the accident, he has not been in contact with the family since then. So tonight, there is no follow-up to his public announcement that he would ensure that Elisa gets the required assistance.
Ersi Hunter, Sister of Deceased (Translated)
“He came the same night that the accident happened. Since then I haven’t heard from him. He has not called nor visited us. He has to know that we lost a sister and that we are going through a very difficult time. We need him to say at least something. That is what we are waiting for. I am left with a little girl that is seven years old. She has no father and now she has no mother. My sister worked hard for her daughter. I don’t know what to tell her when she asks me about her mother. I tell her that her mother went to heaven and that one day we will all go to heaven.”
The family is considering taking the body of Elisa back to her country.
It is clear that the fault of this accident is on the part of the woman that perished. This is something we need to start to think and change. The pedestrians and even cyclists are very irresponsible on the road. I would be upset if government money is used to compensate the family of the person that died. What should actually happen is for the family to pay for the vehicle that was damaged. I know this is cold, but we need to start to protect the drivers as well.
May the LORD bless the sister in this tragedy.it must be mentioned that tomorrow is not promised to no one. It is best to live, love and laugh. God bless my home Belize!!!!l
What the hell dude? Do you hear yourself? Even if its the lady’s fault why should the family pay. Wasn’t their fault. Its sad but now the Lady is dead. Why should the family pay for any wrong doing of the lady? Plus I sure minister happy his Car messed up so now he can upgrade and buy d damaged one for $1000 like how they always do. Goverment dont need the money. We pay for those ppl. Everytime we buy something from the store we paying tax. Everything Some pays property tax we paying for dat vehicle. THEY dont need the money they will just have us buy another one for dem!! HAVE SOME HEART. Mistakes are done and now the family needs some help. I rather they have some of the tax payers money to have a proper funeral dan to have those money go into our corrupt ministers pocket!! Common mein, try for me.
