Woman Hit by AG’s Vehicle Dies

Thirty-one year old Elisa Hunter, who was struck by a government vehicle as she crossed the George Price Highway, perished on Wednesday evening at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Hunter was on her way to work at Belize Recycling Company on Tuesday morning when she was hit and flung into the air by the vehicle assigned to Foreign Minister, Sedi Elrington. Amir Garcia was driving the 2015 Prado that slammed into Hunter soon after she got off a passenger bus near mile eight and a half on the highway. The massive impact sent Hunter several yards away and onto the pavement where she received severe head and body injuries. Despite all hopes of survival, Hunter’s condition was critical and following several rounds of surgeries she succumbed to the injuries. Today, News Five spoke with her younger sister, Ersi, who rushed to the scene of the accident and was able to speak to her sister for the last time.

“I went outside to see my sister when the accident happened. I picked her up and stayed with her until her last moments. She spoke to me for a while but then she could not speak anymore. They told us that she was in a critical condition. The doctors gave us little hope. They told us the truth in saying that she was critical. We could not believe it… we still can’t believe it. It hurts and life goes on. The last thing I she said was that she was in a lot of pain, while we waited for an ambulance. It’s hard to be in an accident here in Belize because we waited for the ambulance for 45 minutes to an hour. I thank all the people who were calling for the ambulance to come. She was complaining about her stomach but we didn’t know that it was so badly damaged. There were three of us. I am the youngest. I am still waiting on my older sister to respond to us as to what to do. I would like for her to just rest in peace here but it is up to my sister. At the moment when the accident happened I hugged my sister. I asked her for forgiveness. I told her that I would take care of her daughter until I die. I promised her that. And I hope God gives me the strength to do what I promised her.”
