P.U.P. Prepared for Petrocaribe Rally

A massive rally is being organized by the United Democratic Party to coincide with Tuesday’s house meeting.  The demonstration to be held at the foot of the Assembly Building is being billed as a show of support for government’s Petrocaribe loan motion which will be presented for a second reading during the special sitting.  The gathering succeeds a recent suit filed by P.U.P. Deputy Leader Julius Espat against the Government of Belize.  Today, we asked Party Leader Francis Fonseca for his thoughts on the planned rally.

“We expect a big show, a multimillion dollar show.  I hope it’s not Petrocaribe money that they are using to put on this show, but we’ll find out in the House when we face them.  But we are ready for them, we are ready for them.  We will deal with them in the House because we are absolutely confident that the Belizean people are sick and tired of the empty rhetoric that is coming from this U.D.P. government.  They understand that their daily lives are getting worse. They can’t feed their children; they can’t send them to school; they can’t provide proper health care for their children; many of them can’t get jobs, they are losing jobs and they see the government spending big money to put on a show. I hear all the projects countrywide because you know you have to pledge allegiance to the U.D.P. if you are going to get a job on anyone of these projects. I hear all these projects will be shut down so that all these workers can be sent to Belmopan. Public officers are being intimidated; they must go out there and show their support for the government. Well we will deal with them. We are ready for them. We will deal with them in the House on Tuesday.”
