Why No Charges for Sonia Abac’s Murder?
On July ninth, the body of seventy-one year old Ramon Cervantes Sr. was recovered from a shallow grave on a farm on the Honey Camp Road, an area called Indian Hill. Three men were detained for his murder. Police say that it is those three men – Noe Gonzalez, Mateo Pott and Angel Cardenas, who led them to a second body, that of forty-six year old Sonia Maribel Abac, missing since April. Her body was found dumped in a well on a farm next to the one where Cervantes’ body was discovered. On that same day, July ninth, Gonzalez, Pott and Cardenas were charged for the murder of Ramon Cervantes Sr. Police claimed that the men would soon be charged for Abac’s murder as well. It’s been four months, and those men have still not been charged for that murder. On November sixth Police issued a release in which they state that, quote – “Police investigation has proven so far that no other party apart from wanted person Manuel Castillo and his accomplices are responsible for both murders.” So why no charges for Abac’s murder..? News Five has on principle asked that question of the Orange Walk Police Department every few weeks since July, and we have always been told that the DPP has the file and is expected to hand it back soon. Interestingly, today News Five confirmed that the Abac file with the advice of the DPP attached was handed to Police on September eighth, two months ago, and the DPP’s Office has not heard back from Police since.
Be merciless in pursuing the police to answer the question. The media are the only free institution biased though they may be.
