Faber Says Accountability of Petrocaribe Funds Can Be Seen on the Streets

Patrick Faber

Minister of Education and Collet Area Representative, Patrick Faber has gone on record to defend the use of the Petrocaribe monies saying accountability of the funds can be seen on the streets. And he repeated that today in the House. For the U.D.P., it’s not about rules or financial regulations; it’s about development.

Patrick Faber, Area Rep., Collet

“Under the party leader of the U.D.P., there is nothing but accountability. And the evidence of this Mister Speaker, the evidence of this is on the ground. I gave an interview to some of the media houses Mister Speaker, and when they asked where is the accountability, where is the evidence of the Petrocaribe funds have been spent since 2012, I said to them it is on the streets. If you don’t believe it Mister Speaker, you go to Chetumal Street or you can go on the other side at the corner of Lake Independence Boulevard and Fabers Road and you will see evidence of the Petrocaribe money on the ground. Mister Speaker if they want to see more evidence of where the money has gone, they can go further up the road—either side of Chetumal Street or Lake Independence Boulevard—and they will see the spanking new bridge; never given out to any crony Mister Speaker. They can’t accuse Mister Cisco of being on any side. This is a man who this company worked for the P.U.P. and has been building roads. That is the person Mister Speaker who has done most of the works that the Petrocaribe monies have been spent on. And if they don’t believe they can go see the bridge; it is right there. It is not like Luke Espat bridge weh ih mi build dah Iguana Creek weh deh dah river bottom.”

What we see on the street is overpriced weak cement, inferior tar and seven contractors walking away with all the money. I have travelled through Belmopan, and Imagine a place like this was built 44 years ago and the tar held up for at least 38 years, and the new tar placed only months already have holes that are being patched. The cement is also cracking in some places and they haven’t started taking the load of trucks as yet. Too much money spent, and no value for money. The people of Belize are getting huffed and these people are smiling all the way to the bank.

We are getting what Faber said. If you want the accounts, just look at the street. Yup we know, we are getting the worst job ever at the highest cost ever and that is the account for the two hundred plus MILLION dollars being spent. While there are living lavishly, we will have to pay for it. It’s a sweetheart deal only for the UDP!
