An Update on cancer patient, Cleyon

Remember Cleyon Marage Junior? He is a fourteen year old who is afflicted with Acute Myloid Leukemia. Since September, Cleyon Junior had been in and out of hospital and doctors had given up on him. Through the assistance of a group of women, Cleyon Junior was taken for medical assistance in Merida where he is currently receiving chemotherapy. Today, News Five received an update on his condition.

“Well basically the doctors here gave up on Cleyon as you know. The doctors in Merida also gave up on him because he has a very rare kind of cancer and he needed treatment from the United States. St. Jude’s in Chicago had tentatively told us that they would accept him, but it was a process and it had taken him a long time to get confirmation from them. I was getting a bit disappointed and at the meantime, Cleyon had to go back to Merida to get his chemo. They called us this morning and they told us a hundred percent that he has been accepted into St. Jude’s which is big. It means no more exorbitant expenses for him and he’ll be getting the treatment he needs. Even better than that is the fact that Cleyon has gone into remission, which means that if he gets a bone marrow transplant now, he’ll be on the full road to recovery. This is a miracle Duane because I mean a few weeks ago, the doctors told the mother that this child had four hours to live. The doctors in Merida told her that she was wasting her time and they were just giving him chemo to keep him going. So to hear that he is on the full road to recovery, I can’t express to you how it makes us feel. This is like a miracle and just in time for Christmas…it’s perfect. We are hoping that he comes back, have a good Christmas and maybe in January, the first week in January, he’ll be able to go.”
