Joe Mahmud’s Untimely Resignation Triggers Bye-election in Cayo North

Joseph Mahmud

At news time tonight senior P.U.P. officials are in closed door session following the announcement of the resignation of Cayo North Area Representative Joseph Mahmud from the House of Representative. Yes, we know he resigned from the Party in late October – but this time he’s taken the big step of resigning from the National Assembly – effective today. For those in the political know…that means a bye-election no sooner than twenty-one days or later than ninety days from today. We couldn’t get an official comment from anybody in the P.U.P, but we are told that that will come on Tuesday. The announcement, via National Assembly release this afternoon, came as a surprise to the P.U.P. executive. The release says that Mahmud’s resignation was delivered at eleven this morning to the clerk of the House of Representatives, Eddie Webster. Although Speaker of the House, Michael Peyrefitte is away in France, he was immediately contacted and he accepted the resignation, triggering a bye-election. Now, the U.D.P. has already elected a standard bearer for the area and on the Opposition side, there are two aspirants who announced very recently; they being attorney Michel Chebat and businessman, Richard Harrison. This is a developing story which we will continue to follow.

Like I said before this is the direct product of Julius Espat’s arrogant and foolish ways.

He has single handedly demoralized all of the true PUP’s

Maybe he will win in Cayo South but it seems to me he will be the only one to win in the Cayo District…

And if he continues even Cayo South will be in trouble

Oh No! this can’t be happening, and we thought we were going to get more balance democracy with a divided representation between both parties. The PUP has demonstrated to be a very bad opposition party. I think we need to see what they will do for this bi-elections, because it is a test of fire or start to resign PUP’s because u have shown not to care, you have focus on petty issues and only make noise when UDP do mistakes. Please do more things with the money you have in international banks or you will never get into power again, you should be doing a lot more for the people of Belize.

The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a thirty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!
