Belizean Musician remembered on his birthday
It has been six years since the untimely passing of iconic Belizean musician and UNESCO Artist for Peace Andy Palacio. While the Garifuna community at home and abroad is still mourning the loss, Palacio is being remembered, as he would have celebrated his fifty-fourth birthday today. Andy Palacio, who rose to prominence over the course of his stellar career as a Punta Rock artist, was bestowed the WOMEX Award in 2007 for the critically acclaimed album Watina, his crown achievement. For reflections of his unmatched contribution to Belizean culture through music, we spoke with renowned historian Sebastian Cayetano. He told News Five that a series of activities were held earlier today in honor of the legendary singer.
