Osmany Salas is New President of BTIA

Osmany Salas

The B.T.I.A. also welcomed a new president during today’s AGM.  Osmany Salas has been chosen to succeed Herbert Haylock as head of the private sector tourism organization.  The incoming president says that the work of B.T.I.A. continues by strengthening specific areas of the organization, including its relationship with the Belize Tourism Board.

Osmany Salas, Incoming President, BTIA

“We certainly have a lot of work ahead.  As I said as part of my acceptance speech, we have to roll up our sleeves and start working.  Key targets, you know, what I envision for the next year, not the entire two-year term of the tenure but to 2015, we need to start working on increasing the membership, increasing and expanding our membership.  I found out that our membership levels have actually dropped and so there is a lot of work to do on that side of things.  That also says that therein lies great opportunities to increase our membership.  In relation to that we need to strengthen our destination chapters.  Several of them need a lot of support and in relation to that strengthen the relation between the chapters and the national secretariat. The BTB’s commitment and interest to strengthen its relationship with its partners and they do consider our organization as one of their key partners and we the same.  So we spoke and we agreed to meet very early in the new year to see how we can move towards being, you know, better and stronger partners.  So I was very excited about that and happy about that.”

I think Osmany, the membership is not interested too much, cause you are putting up too much policies that only benefit those sitting at the table, meanwhile the small business are suffering here. Belize tourism is so tied up to the agricuture sector, that none of you guys want to speak about, you are putting your eggs in one basket for the touristic market, when are failing to put a good foundation. I hope that you do not continue using your position to continue getting many consultancies that you do not deserve.
