2 Belize City Men Claim GSU Brutality

Two men claim they were badly beaten today at a house on Periwinkle Street in Lake Independence Area. The Gang Suppression unit was looking for drugs and firearm. They didn’t find any, but Jeon Peebles and Kareem Grant hit numerous times with a metal pipe. The ordeal lasted an hour when the GSU finally left the two men had to be taken to the hospital. They are making a public complaint before heading to the Professional Standards Branch of the Police Department to file a report.

“We were watching TV at four o’clock when the police arrived and came and said they came to search for guns and ammunition and drugs. While searching, I was the one watching them search and my partner was kneeling down and take his beating. I could say about a good hour they search and all that time he di take his beating. And while he di take his beating, they tell me that me dah next and when dehn noh find nothing ina di house, dehn noh find nothing ina the house and bring me to kneel down. Because they noh find nothing, they want me give information on the streets. I tell them I noh got no information fi give them and unu come and noh find nothing here so I noh got nothing fi give unu. So they continue beat me and he on the same time.”

“They just come dehn and ask weh part the owner of the house deh and we tell them that the owner noh deh deh. And one of them look pan we and say unu wah claim up fi anything we find cause unu deh yah. So they start to search around. They got he with dehn. Dehn got me di kneel down on the ground and one named Mister Flowers haul up on me and start to whap up me and di ask me question about things weh I noh even know. About things on the street and I tell he boss me noh know nothing. And the reason why we noh gone dah work dah because we noh got no work today.”
