P.U.P. Blasts B.T.B. for Myers Debacle

On Wednesday, we showed you the ignominious departure of the B.T.B.’s two day Director of Marketing and International Relations, Clive Percival Myers. Myers resigned, allegedly when it was revealed that his qualifications, including a Masters Degree, were faked. He had been named to the post only days ago, following the departure of Alyssa Carnegie on December twelfth. Today, the P.U.P. came out swinging via press release entitled – the U.D.P. Government is not serious about tourism. The Opposition goes on the attack, asking the question, “with the B.T.B. overstaffed with so many business-minded U.D.P. professionals, how is it that they would miss a most basic but important procedure for the hiring of any senior Director position – doing due diligence.” And then they take it further, stating that, “since 2011, the U.D.P. has seen two new Directors of Tourism come and go, two Directors of Marketing come and go, one person appointed as the Director of Marketing on the basis of misrepresentation as to his credential, and now no Director of Marketing.” And then they close the release by demanding that the Government of Belize get serious about tourism, find a solution to the cruise ship port crisis and take immediate measures to stabilize marketing of the overnight sector. The embarrassment caused by the Myers debacle is not, for sure, a stellar report on an organization which has seen its share of employee turmoil. There has been no official comment from the B.T.B., only a very brief release on Wednesday announcing the departure of Myers.
