Family of Escaped Prisoner Claim Police Harassment

Emmanuel Willoughby Jr.

The manhunt continues for twenty-five year old Emmanuel Willoughby, an inmate at the Belize Central Prison who escaped from his cell last Saturday. According to the Kolbe Foundation, Willoughby cut a hole on his cell door and broke out from the prison at around three a.m. on Saturday. Emmanuel has relatives in Libertad and Georgeville, but it is his immediate family here in the City that is claiming that since his escape, they have been constantly harassed by the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) and prison wardens. The family sought legal advice and has now come forward to the media with allegations of police brutality.

Attention foreign investors: You might want to consider investing your dollars elsewhere. With police who behave little better than the street thugs, I really can’t see a positive direction for this little country.
