Alexander Nunez Caught in the Act of Raping a Woman

A young man from Belize City is on remand at the Belize Central Prison tonight after he was charged with rape. Police say that on Friday, twenty-three year old construction worker Alexander Nunez was in the act of raping a woman in a yard on Raccoon Street when they passed by and stopped him.  Nunez appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer this evening on the single charge of rape. In his defense he stated that he and the alleged victim were drinking. The Police Prosecutor objected to bail, claiming that the victim must be protected, and so should the defendant, since relatives of the alleged victim may want to retaliate. Additionally, the Police prosecutor insisted that they have a strong case since Nunez was caught in the act.  With that the Senior Magistrate remanded Nunez into custody until January twenty-seventh, 2015.
