B.S.C.F.A. Directors Call Emergency Meeting, Agreement Remains Unsigned

The final proposal for a purchasing agreement between the B.S.C.F.A. and B.S.I. remains to be endorsed, despite an amendment to a controversial term in a previous draft.  Earlier this week, Chief Financial Officer Belizario Carballo expressed serious concerns about the National Trade Union Congress of Belize’s involvement in ongoing negotiations between the two parties.  The N.T.U.C.B., since lending the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association its unwavering support, stands accused of misrepresenting certain information pertaining to the purchasing agreement.   Unperturbed by B.S.I.’s claim, the umbrella organization issued a release on Tuesday pointing to a section of the Sugar Industry Act which empowers government to declare a starting date for the crop season.  This, according to N.T.U.C.B., is another possibility to bring to an end the existing logjam.  While the trade union congress would want the crop season to commence as early as Saturday, should G.O.B. apply that section of the Sugar Industry Act, the management of the B.S.C.F.A. gathered in Orange Walk earlier today?  That meeting succeeded a request by the directors of the association upon receipt of the final proposal from B.S.I.
