Man Crushed to Death By Steel Plates in Spanish Lookout

An Orange Walk man was crushed to death following an accident in Spanish Lookout. Ramon Ku was working at a steel company when he accidentally fell over and metal panels weighing some two thousand to three thousand pounds fell on top of him. Inspector Reymundo Reyes tells us more.

“Some time after nine-forty five a.m, information was received of a fatality at a Mid-West Steel Company located in Spanish Lookout community. As a result, police visited the area where on arrival they saw the body of a Hispanic person lying in a face up position. There, on Mr Henry Reimer sixty four year old, Belizean Businessman reported that he was driving a forklift loaded with three cases of metal plates measuring eight feet by twenty feet in the compound. Standing on top of the plates were two workers, and approaching a trailer in which he was to set the plates, the said plates fell off the forklift causing Mr Ramon Ku, thirty eight years old Belizean Laborer of August Pine Ridge. Falling off the plates and the plates fell right on top of him flattening him in the trailer. The assistance of some workers was asked where he was removed from under the plates but he succumbed to his injuries almost immediately.  At this moment the body was transported to the San Ignacio Hospital Morgue for a postmortem examination today. Statements have been recorded and the information will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.”
