One dead and several others injured in Corozal accident
A fatal traffic accident in between miles eighty-five and eighty-six on the Phillip Goldson Highway has claimed the life of a UB graduate. Around six-thirty on Tuesday, twenty-five year old Iris Mabel Chicas lost her life when the grey 2006 Ford Fusion car she was driving slammed head on into a Toyota Tundra truck coming in the opposite direction. Upon arriving between miles eighty-five and eighty-six, Chicas proceeded to overtake a van travelling in front of her and she collided into the truck. The collision occurred near the slaughterhouse on the highway, which is a few yards away from the Tumbaito area, a dangerous curve where many fatal accidents have happened in the past. The pickup truck, which was driven at the time by sixty-five year old Chawki Karam Eddin, a businessman of Corozal Town, was dropping off several of his employees from the Free Zone, including Muhamade Ahmad Hijize, Jorge Patt, Carlos Elvir and Eleaser Gutierrez, when the incident occurred. The driver and his passengers sustained multiple injuries of varying degrees to the head and across the body. Travelling with Chicas at the time was Ahmad Shah Amini. As a result of accident, both Gutierrez and Amini were transported to the K.H.M.H. Chicas died on the spot.
