Will Taxes Be Lowered Under a P.U.P. City Council?
So with all that said…is all the hullaballoo about CitCo’s finances a genuine concern, or a political red-herring? We figure that depends on who you ask, on which side of the political divide. We do note that while today’s P.U.P. press conference was all about the audit, Schakron managed to get in a plug for her team, claiming that the U.D.P. plans to raise taxes, while she would lower them if elected.
Yolanda Schakron, P.U.P. Mayoral Candidate, Belize City
“I have heard that they will increase taxes if they win again. That would be really unfortunate…first of all if they win, and to increase taxes. As we walk around this city, the cry of the people is that we are being overtaxed, we are burdened with taxes. You cannot burden a community with tax…that community will fail. The businesses are failing at this time. What I can tell you is that we will not increase taxes.”
Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor
“There is absolutely no plan to increase any taxes, and again I ask members of the public to treat with this as what it is. It is election propaganda. We have been working for the last three and a half years, we have been disclosing every bit of information, all of our plans…when we proposed the residential garbage fee, for a period of eight months we went out there on public consultations, talking this thing out…we were on Open Your Eyes, LOVE, KREM. WAVE…we did public consultations regarding this, we were talking with the utility companies on how we would deal with collections…so our mantra has always been to deal with consulting with residents before anything like that has ever happened. There is absolutely no plan for us to do any tax increases, and I would charge residents of Belize City to take that with a grain of salt, because they have absolutely nothing so that the only way to get any kind of traction is to attack someone who’s working.”
This Bradley is a clown as his defense of any high taxes on the poor, unemployed Belizean displays a special kind of financial stupidity rarely found in the well-trained. By even the man in the streets must know that excessive taxes destroy countries by causing investors to not invest which cause unemployment which cause non-productivity which cause lower GDP which cause less taxes to be collected, etc., etc.,…For Belize to really develop, we must get rid of the all these current thieving , corrupt politicians.
