A New Belize City Under Mayor Yolanda Schakron?

This morning, we also took the opportunity to ask the aspiring mayoral candidate about her plans for the city, if she is elected to office.

“We intend to be a council that will be transparent and consult with the people. I noh wah be wah mayor weh wah di go do lawsuits or di go to court. I will be in City Hall and I will not be sitting behind a desk. I will be out there working and making sure the work is done. We have seen that the neglect of the south side of the city is tremendous. We will go in there and what we will do we will prioritize things. We see the need…we will come into the south side and there are a lot of streets that are totally neglected. We have to upgrade those; we have to deal with the drainage system. We have a mayor who has put streets, but has not put drains; so many people homes are now flooded. We have to deal with playgrounds and parks in the south side of Belize City where we have a lot of social problems. In the audit you will see that seven thousand dollars was spent on playgrounds and parks in south side Belize City. I don’t see even seven thousand being spent, but that is very minimal compared to the three parks in north side Belize City. So we have to deal with that. The other thing is that we have to sit down and design a plan for the tax system. It is not equitable and fair. We have to talk to the business owners; we have to make Belize City more affordable, a better place for businesses to flourish. Remember businesses that flourish bring employment. So we have to work on that. We have to sit down with the business community; we have to sit down with the residents of Belize City. So we have a lot of plans. We have our manifesto out; we need to deal with the taxes. The taxi fees are very high. The other thing we will take off as soon as we come in is that where you can’t get your driver’s license if yo owe property tax; that is illegal…that has to stop. We have to set up a payment plan so people can pay their taxes. We have to find a way to make it more feasible for people to pay their taxes, for them to be able to afford it. We find that in the city, taxes have gone up tremendously. So we have to deal with all those issues. The tourism industry…we have to make Belize City more attractive so that when the tourists dehn come. We have a lot of talent in Belize City. So we can set up dehn same parks weh we could have festivities so the tourists will stay here.”
According to Schakron, she will also focus on the upgrades as well as the construction of sporting facilities and the creation of open spaces in south side Belize City.
I AIN’T NO PARTY LOVER but really this woman doesn’t convince people, if you want to win it doesn’t need you to go about and pin point the things, like “oh see they did this bad , oh she they thief money, etc.” All she had to do is talk to the media express her self genuinely from the heart not from the pocket and avoid things like cat fights they are doing. Almost all political persons we know thief money so why try to point fingers when we know in a couple of time some of her party might thief like they’ve done before and the ones in place are thieving too. If you want to aspire to be a politician don’t do this crap of fighting over the media like this. Action speak more than words. if she like to fight like that before elected mein what do we expect later from her.

Her speeches reflect poorly on her. that is why I say she does not convince people at all. She should let her actions speak and quit speaking non-sense. I urge Belizeans to really think about it. gosh you imagine a Belize City under her “leadership”. That would be very sad. Does she really think she can do better than Bradley.
