Eamon Courtenay Says General Legal Counsel is Dysfunctional
The accusation levied against Staine is by no means a rare one where attorneys are concerned. Traditionally, those complaints against attorneys should be taken before the General Legal Counsel, the body which decides sanctions against attorneys. Bar Association President Eamon Courtenay says that a complaint against Staine has been taken before that body, where it will languish untouched, like all the other complaints taken there.
Eamon Courtenay, President, Bar Association
“I have said it before and I will said it again. There are many complaints against attorneys. I have said it before and I will say it again. The General Legal Counsel is not functioning because the Attorney-General is not complying with the law and he himself has brought the General Legal Counsel to a stop. Those complaints are just there waiting to be heard. I think members of the public are frustrated and they should not be frustrated because the Counsel should be dealing with the complaints.”
Eamon, not only is the General Legal Council dysfunctional, so too is the entire nation of Belize. I think independence from Britain just hasn’t worked out.
