Minister of Education Wants Answers

After that roundabout answer without anything concrete, we tried to press the minister for more details. The alleged UB sex scandal is only one example of various allegations of that type at different schools across the country. He joined us in sending out a call for answers.

“What stops the Minister of Education from calling the UB Board for example, or the management of any school and saying you know what, we hear this is happening, we have gotten these reports, and I need an investigation to be done immediately because we need to deal with this now.”

“What stops the media from asking the president of the university? You’ll understand that the Ministry of Education…it is my understanding of my duty that I am not to interfere every day with UB…UB is an autonomous body. I appoint the members of the Board, just like I do with several other entities under education that are quasi-government but I don’t micro-manage UB and come here and ask what’s going on, and who is doing what and who is getting hired or who is getting fired.”

“Sir this isn’t the stealing of an eraser or a ruler or a pencil…this is something serious.”
Patrick Faber
“Yes and there are capable officials…there is a Chairman here, there is a President here, there is a Public Relations officer here and you’re right here on the campus today. I’m sure they’ll be happy to answer whatever questions you have today.”

“Aren’t you concerned as the Minister of Education?”
Patrick Faber
“I am concerned. I’m very concerned. If you want me to join you in imploring the officials here to give answers to something that I don’t have all the details to, then I’ll join you.”

“We have space in our vehicle.”
Patrick Faber
“I’m not going to go with you. I’ll join you publicly now to make the plea to them to answer whatever questions you might have. Yes I am very concerned.”
Despite trying again today, we were unable to get any official comment from the national university.
Such spineless people in government, skirting answers. There has to be one man of integrity who says enough is enough, stand up and begin to make some positive changes.
As long as they those in government continue to get their paycheck they turn a blind eye to the suffering of the people. Come on people take your country back.
Al Rich, why should the minister tell the bullies anything he have no knowledge of. He was correct to direct them to UB people.
Cho, you won’t get any official answers, but I am sure there are faculty who are willing to talk off the record. Get their comments and then UB will be forced to respond publicly. Right now they may be trying to figure out their damage control strategy. But I wouldn’t wait for that. Talk to instructors and support staff. They know what is going on. What about police reports? UB officially will stonewall. That is their job…to protect the reputation of the college. And they will try to do that if more details come out.
