World Cup Qualifier Set for March 25th

But football is an expensive sport. There is the cost for training of the players, salaries for the coaching staff and the players as well as the maintenance of the sporting facility and traveling expenses for the national team. Aside from the support from FIFA, the ministry of sports and the general public, Vicente says the upcoming game will prove to donors that the team is worth their support.

“It has always been our policy to ensure that our team participates and so the Football Federation of Belize gives out the funds. We identify the funds for our national team. We have the funds right now, but we also seek the public’s assistance in funding our national team. One of the things that I believe in; that I must prove myself to you first. When we qualify for Gold Cup couple years ago, we took the team to Costa Rica and proved to the Belizean public that we have a national team that is worthy of funding. And so, for the twenty-fifth of march, we are preparing the national team from funds that the federation has and we are going to do our best to prove to the public that once again we put together a national team that is worthy of their sponsorship. I got to prove myself first before I come to the public and beg for significant amount of monies. But it is not to say that the national team committee along with the marketing committee is not doing their best to raise funds at this point.”
As we said, the world cup qualifying game will be played on March twenty-fifth and tickets go on sale soon at fifty dollars each. The game against Cayman Islands starts at eight p.m.
