Ambassador Manuel Tellez Passes
It is with deep sadness that tonight we report on the death of Guatemala’s Ambassador to Belize, His Excellency Manuel Tellez. He passed away on Sunday morning in Guatemala City surrounded by his loved ones and was laid to rest earlier today. Prior to his funeral services the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala paid tribute to the Ambassador at a homage at the Ministry at which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Raul Morales traced the Ambassadors impressive diplomatic career, describing him as one of Guatemala’s finest diplomat. Ambassador Tellez has had a long and distinguished career with his country’s diplomatic service. He served in many countries such as El Salvador, Mexico, South Korea and in Belize. His mission here lasted ten years and at the time of his passing, he was Dean of the diplomatic community. He leaves a legacy of a long and distinguished career with Guatemala’s diplomatic service that spanned twenty-five years. During his tenure, he was a member of Guatemala’s negotiating team to the long standing territorial dispute. When the negotiations failed, he continued to represent his government on the issue and on all bilateral matters with Belize. Ambassador Tellez can be credited for promoting peace between the two countries and for keeping relations on a positive path while meeting challenges with due respect and pragmatism. He is survived by his wife, Silvia, and children Manuel Eduardo and Ana Silvia. Ambassador Tellez, dead, at fifty-four.
