Municipal Elections Were a Wakeup Call

Francis Fonseca

There was no announcement of any shakeup of the party. And in closing the very brief press session today, Fonseca reached out to the party’s supporters who he says must be feeling demoralized at this point. He assured them that the party is aware of its internal shortfalls and is working to address them because they have heard and heeded the wake up call.

“However sir, while the message that you’re putting out here is that you as the party leader enjoy, the confidence of all your standard bearers, the perception out there of many people is that under your leadership you cannot bring the Party into a unity that is required to win the general election. What do you say to those people out there?”

Francis Fonseca, P.U.P. Leader

“Well that’s the issue I’ve addressed today. I said we discussed that in a frank way. It’s no secret that the People’s United Party has had challenges with the issue of unity. This goes back as far back as 2006. We understand that. We recognize that. Our commitment…and I think the election result was a wakeup call to all of us…is that we have to fix those problems. We have to fix those challenges. And so we are going to address them. We started today. We recognize that there is a lot more work to do. But we are absolutely committed to fixing that issue of unity within our party and to move forward in a spirit absolutely of unity committed to the work of the party.”

The 2015-2016 Budget will be presented this Friday. We have no doubt that the P.U.P.’s performance in municipal elections, and indeed the recording, will be ventilated during that session.
