Political War Waged on Facebook

Turning to political news….Following an executive meeting and four hour political post-mortem examination on Wednesday, the P.U.P. appeared focused on the road ahead which will lead inevitably to very difficult general elections. Flanked by his generals, P.U.P. leader Francis Fonseca sent out a message to, in his own words, the demoralized supporters of the Party. As we reported Wednesday night, that message included a sheathing of the swords, a sort of let bygones be bygones, and of course, that most critical but elusive entity – unity.

Now we don’t generally report on social media matters, but on the heels of that very convincingly stated unity, a Wednesday night Facebook post by P.U.P. Deputy Leader Julius Espat caught our attention. In that post, Espat is lashing out at former P.U.P. leader John Briceño, stating, “John Briceno lied about me in his campaign to be leader again…in his recording. He lied because he knows that the distribution of funds for the 2012 Election was done by a team and not by me. His brother Jaime Briceño was the co-campaign manager. All I can say is that John has done serious damage to our loyal party supporters, which has eroded their trust in him.”

For context, we note that in the leaked recording, Briceño accused Espat of taking money entrusted to him as National Campaign Manager in 2012, and pumping it into his own area, which he won by a huge margin while two Cayo constituencies lost by a miniscule number of votes. So what damage does a post like this by the P.U.P. Deputy Leader do? Well, it certainly doesn’t help people to believe that the Party is now united heading into general elections. And it certainly doesn’t ease the very hostile relationship between Briceño and Espat. Interestingly, it is under Briceño’s leadership from 2009-2011 that Espat made his debut into the higher echelons of the People’s United Party. In respect of Jaime Briceño, his post as co-manager has been described as a nominal appointment and that he attended, at best, two meetings of the committee.

    Belize politicians = crooks.

Put our bets on UDP, they can steal more and the citizens are ok with it, something the gangs can support. PUP can’t pull off a Penner recall, they just gave up.

UDP can manage the dissolution of the country better, or create a Mugabe-Lite for the Caribbean.

I think that what Johnny is saying is true, only he knows the all the web and intricacies of his party. If he would want he can also reveal the evidence. Here we need COLA to start to ask for Jail for all the ones that are mentioned in the recording, we also need the Citizen Organized for Justice. I think i would have expected the UDP to have said all what has been said in this recording, but wow it came from the same PUP, this is indeed a reason why we need to analyze if we should still followers of the PUP as mentioned in the recording. I would have expected Johnny to stand his ground and he might have formed a good leader, but now we do not know what to expect, Johnny show some cojones.
