Ministry of Health on KHMH Sterilization Issues
T
here’s some good news coming out of the Ministry of Health tonight. For some weeks, the K.H.M.H.’s operating theater was without sterilizers. It was said that the sterilizers were not working and the K.H.M.H. had to borrow the medical apparatus from elsewhere. Today, Dr Peter Allen, C.E.O. in the Ministry of Health confirmed that six new sterilizers were bought and at least two are in the area that is lacking most at K.H.M.H.

“Actually, I am going to be updated ON IT MYSELF. There IS a meeting of the K.H.M.H. Board now and started an hour ago but I had to come here. I was also out of the country working on a grant from the European Union. But I was aware that they were having some challenges with the sterilizers at K.H.M.H. fortunately; the Ministry of Health has been working on a project of redundancy. With the idea being that when equipment is essential then you can’t just have one because if it goes down then what do you do. So you buy additional equipment should in case something happens. So the Ministry of Health, supported by the Ministry of Finance, just bought six sterilizers for distribution around. I am aware that our own engineering and maintenance center which is on the compound of the K.H.M.H. had taken two of those new sterilizers and set them up on the compound of K.H.M.H to support them while they are repairing K.H.M.H.’s largest sterilizers. I know they are working as we speak. They are going to brief me this morning and I was informed but only verbally that there were some parts that were needed and that the parts just arrived. So we expect to give you more and better information. The K.H.M.H. is part of the national system and we work very closely together to do whatever we can to make sure that services are all available and that is what really is happening.”
