Retired Teacher Herman Lambey Indicted for Sexual Offences

Herman Lambey

A retired teacher, Herman Lambey, who was once a Principal at the Queen Street Baptist School headed to court today to answer to three criminal offenses including Aggravated Assault of an Indecent Nature, known now as sexual assault, Threatening Words and Harm upon an eighteen year old high school student. It is alleged that Lambey touched the student inappropriately on her private parts in February 2015.  When he arrived in court to be arraigned, the former educator was escorted in handcuffs and shackles. But inside the courtroom of the Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith, the drama unfolded when the eighteen year said that she was withdrawing the charges against Lambey because she did not want to be affected in school.  The Chief Magistrate queried if she had been threatened or promised anything and her response to both questions was No.  With that the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith, refrained from reading the charges and told him he was free to go. Within minutes, the retired teacher walked out the court room a free man.

  1. Rev Mary Martin says:

Victims must feel protected and secure in order to testify. Perpetrators know this and may feel immune from prosecution. Sadly, victims of sexual assault do not feel free from persecution.
