Football Federation Tackles Deon McCauley
Deon McCauley, Belize’s star player will not be playing in the first world cup qualifying match against Grand Cayman next week. McCauley called us on Thursday to say that he felt disrespected that he wasn’t considered and that the F.F.B. hasn’t reached out to him. Now, McCauley underwent a sports hernia surgery last year and hasn’t been playing active football. So, according to McCauley when the list was published his name wasn’t on it. Well, the F.F.B. isn’t taking McCauley’s statements lightly. Today, the F.F.B. executive addressed the matter and hope that it will be put to bed, given that they did reach out to him and that he hasn’t tried to train with the team. They want Belize and McCauley to know that he has a spot on the team and that he is welcome to play, just not this first game. Minister John Saldivar who is attached to the national team also took the time to shot down the allegations that he may have had a hand in it:
John Saldivar, Coordinator, Belize National Team
“Suffice for me to say; based on what accusations have been made out there and again, it is the coaching staff that is entirely and solely responsible for the selection of this team. I also believe that we need to put on the record, as far as the F.F.B. is concerned, Mr. McCauley is an inactive player, not having been signed with any international teams before and therefore, not participating in any competition.”

harlie Slusher, Assistant Coach, Belize National Team
“Deon is missed from the team and any team would have loved to have him. He is one of our top players. On another point, we have been in communication with Deon. That is a fact. Not me personally, the assistant coach and executive member. Deon is on the list and he is still part of the team but he cannot be activated for the Cayman game because of those reasons. It is not because of anything personal against him, but because he has to come in and put in the same kind of work that all of these guys have been putting in from last year November. As long as Deon show up for the next he can be part of the next game. The opportunity is there for Deon McCauley. He is part of the list submitted to FIFA for the World Cup Qualifying Games. It’s there.”
mcauley belize so called superstar is active with waukegan lebe all stars he is on the roster . we only play for peanuts.he was a good peanuts player but didn’t look so far advance than the bums he was playing with or against .he isn’t nothing that the belize federation should be trying to kiss up to the silver backs which is like 5 th division in the USA had him riding the bench. i was in the world cup in south africa I’ve been to watch barcelona, juventus, and other big games at soldier field and in my opinion belize selection could qualify to play against the waukegan teams and the belikin team and dangriga teams here representing belize only in the summer.so what is he complaining about like he needs special invitation for ? this kid is over rated even for belizean standards.
–lebe waukegan first off, to call yourself a Belize is a total disrespect to us natural born belizeans that still live at home, you go to the states for jobs when they are good ones at home and look down on your home nation even though you probably have it harder than if you were at home where the cost of living is well below that of the state of Illinois. I agree that the Deon is behaving like a child however he is no different than tom brady or derick rose. as a last note the Silverbacks team is a second division team in the professional classification with the capability to qualify for first division status. i would advise that you check your tone prior to posing a comment like you did.
I beg to differ Mr.Do right. It’s mentality like yours ,that slows progress for accepting less. It’s not a matter of putting down your country . It’s about calling it like it is. You all put these Belize players like they are superstars ,and the reality is that they are amateurs with many limitations. Not their fault ,because they were not trained properly from a young age like the pros do.As for Deon stint with the Silverbacks ,he sat on the pine quite a bit ,and he perform poorly in the big tournaments. There is no moving from second division to first in the US league either.
As far as the great jobs in Belize ,why is the poverty level so bad ? I live in the US ,and I have a great job ,and a good living.a far cry from the $2.00 per hr concrete work I did in Belize after high school.I’m grateful for the better living I achieve in the US like a lot of Belizeans do.Look at what the country has come to,the crime rate, inflation.Yes I would have love to stay in Belize ,but not to live in poverty ,when there are better opportunity elsewhere.
Mr. Do Right,
you just nailed it to “what his blogg name? oh, lebe waukegan what ever the hell that means.
As the Former National Coach of Belize, I must say that the issue was not handle in the proper way by the Management,, becuase its not about texting, uits about sending a Formal Invitation Letter to The Players and their Clubs, I gave a sample of thet letter to Melaine and Kenneth Budna for they to proceed in the future, but it seems like everyone like to do things their own way and not the they do in the whole world.
I know Hon John Saldivar for a while now, and I can tell you all that He is not a person that like to hold uo anything against no one, He always put the National Team before anything else.
I hope that They will trash out matter and have Deon MC Caully for the Second Round, becuase I have no doubt that Belize go by Grand Cayman, becuase We are a more experience Team.
Good Luck Guys
