Northern Territorial Volunteers Disappointed in G.O.B. Response

Three weeks ago, thirty-eight Belizeans were detained in Belizean waters by Guatemalan military and forced into the Guatemalan port of Livingston. You might think such an incident would spark national outrage from the government because no matter how you slice it, the action is outrageous. It has sparked some anger from G.O.B., to be truthful, but that anger is aimed at the Belizean Territorial Volunteers who continue to make these treks to the border. On the scene of one such trek this weekend, News Five asked Northern Territorial Leaders head, Giovanni de la Fuente, for a response to government’s scolding.

“It was very sad when the Prime Minister uttered those words. He described us as a group of persons under the guise of patriotism on our so-called expeditions. And once again I tell you that you have to get up and brush yourself off and keep on going when your Prime Minister utters those words about your group. We are preparing to forward a document to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and this document will shed new light on what actually occurred on that day. Hopefully they will take a stand and come to realize that it is a travesty that occurred on that day and hopefully they take a look and it will shed new light on what has been transpiring since.”

Tonight on the Dickie Bradley Special, Wil Maheia of the BTV will be discussing the regular treks to the border area.

This is just one impotent pm and gov. Who cowar in their shoes every time guatemala does one of these things just like the killing of the guard they did nothing they are useless and incompetent this pm and gov makes me want to vomit.

“If you read what the release said in the media, this good gentleman has already declared that his office will distance itself from the Guatemala/Belize issue due to the fact that he is a Belizean and he doesn’t want to come off as being bias. So that question that you are asking is – only history will tell. He has already stated that his office will apparently not be active in this issue, since he doesn’t want people to believe that he is bias.”

The above statement is the kind of inaccuracy which creates problem for other people. I listened to the speech on the news, and what I heard was: Belize/ Guatemala dispute comes exclusive under the OAS Secretary General office directly and not under Mr. Mendez. I want him to show me where that story was in a hard copy.

It is kind of pathetic and ridiculous to hear and see this group and their so-called leader continuously and subtly pushing for a confrontation between Guatemala and Belize under the guise of patriotism. The PM and the Foreign Affairs Minister have repeatedly address this issue calling for a calm and sensibly approach to this tinder box and dangerous situation. Apparently, despite the PM’s stand on this issue they continue agitating the situation. Whoever, Will Meheia is, I would like to know what are his objectives and goal? What is it he is trying to prove? He should cease and desist from these ego oriented acts of patriotism and listen to the current PM. Take heed and allow the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to tackle this dangerous issue.

  5. Belizean Pride says:

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS GROUP, IF THE PM AND THE GOB AS A WHOLE DOESN’T TRY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BY STOPPING THESE PEOPLE DESTROYING OUR LAND AND FOREST WHO ELSE IS GOING TO STAND UP AGAINST. IF ONLY I COULD JOIN THEM BUT DUE TO WORK I WOULD PROUDLY GO THERE WITH THEM. IT BOILS INSIDE ME THAT THIS PM SEEMS TO TAKE THESE THINGS LIGHTLY WHEN IN OTHER COUNTRIES THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS ARE DEALT DIPLOMATICALLY SERIOUSLY. BUT THE PM WE HAVE DOESN’T GIVE SHIT ABOUT IT.

  6. CEO says:

This is sad! Those that should be leading the charge are doing more than nothing they are discouraging those that dear stand up to wrong!
