What Did They Get to Walk Away?
Most would say that Longsworth’s stint as Albert Area Representative has been unremarkable, and while Willoughby wanted it really bad, he’ll never get his chance to shine in the Alberts. But neither man seems particularly unhappy to be pushed out, and that’s probably because the favour of their stepping aside will likely be rewarded with a favour of like or larger magnitude. Today, Prime Minister Barrow alluded to the political bounty awaiting Longsworth and Willoughby.
Dean Barrow, U.D.P. Leader
“Herman Longsworth has been an extremely good Minister. He is thoroughly bright, very mature, has an exceptional head on his body. So if at any time in the future, and let’s make clear that Herman will serve out the rest of the term in his ministerial position…thereafter assuming a UDP general election victory, any position we would ask Herman to take up, he would be more than capable of handling in a way that would do the government proud. In terms of Councillor Willoughby, well he is a continuing city councillor – you have spoken glowingly of his winning track record which suggests that the voice of the people next to the voice of God has made clear that there is an appreciation of his talents. Otherwise he would not have won eight contests, so again in that sort of a context how would we ever have any difficulty in appointing Councillor Willoughby to a position that he would be incapable of handling. The judgment of the people is that this is somebody of talent. And if we can find at some point in the future some position in respect of which he can exercise those undoubted talents that would be in fact to the public good.”
He was promised the civic center and the national bank construction- wait and see but expect to end up waiting six years for the completion
