Is Political Office in Matura-Shepherd’s Future?
Matura-Shepherd sat at the head-table at a conference today hosted by the Vision Inspired by the People. And since it’s becoming apparent that the attorney, activist and thorn in the government’s side has her eyes on politics, we asked if her placement is a sign of things to come. For the first time, Matura-Shepherd confirmed publicly that a future in politics is very possibly in her cards.
Audrey Matura-Shepherd, Second Vice-President, N.T.U.C.B.
“Right now I’m only their legal advisor…they’ve asked me to come in. From time to time they’ve contracted me to do key things for them and I do that. Have they, like other parties approached me…let me tell you – officially let me tell you that I have not gotten any approach from them as a party, but like many other political people, all the parties in this country have hinted…so when you deh run, yu wah join mi? So I don’t take that as anything. When they come to me and talk real nuts and bolts, campaign financing, principles, policy, governance and so…and then I decide to sit down and discuss that, and I think it needs to be disclosed, then I will disclose that at the right time. Clearly everybody is looking at me and thinking that I will be running for office…it is possible, but not in the present situation where you have to buy peoples’ votes so it’s a tough one for me at the crossroads where we are, but when the time is right I’ll make the decision. But be assured I’ll always be very active in the Belizean society as an activist because I believe in the things I say and I take my licks for it but I stand my ground. I don’t lose focus.”

I hope not. That would be an utter disaster!!!!!!!!!!!
I say go for it!
I like your spirit!
Keep on it Ms Matura-Shepherd! You make us proud!
