Murder in Mahogany Heights, Forty-Year-Old is Shot and Killed
And if three murders in one weekend weren’t bad enough, there was another early this morning…this time at the community of Mahogany Heights near Mile thirty on the George Price Highway. Forty-year old Kevin Flowers was gunned down in a remote area of the community, as he took a shortcut through the bush to reach the road to La Democracia, where he works. Mike Rudon was on the scene this morning and has the story.

At nine-forty this morning, the body of Kevin Flowers still lay where he had been shot execution style, with a single bullet to the back of the head. Lying out in the boiling sun, covered only by a thin sheet, the body was guarded by Police officers who awaited the arrival of Scenes of Crime personnel. Pending that arrival, nobody was allowed to get close, not even his wife.
Voice of: Geraldine Flowers, Wife of Murder Victim
“I reach as far as dah tree deh so, but I know ih clothes and soh weh ih had, and dread, but fu seh goh fu see ih face they noh mek I see ih face an ting.”
Supt. Hilberto Romero, Head, Crimes Investigation Branch
“Around seven a.m., police were called to a feeder road at Mahogany Heights area. Police visited the area and found the body of Kevin Flowers, thirty-four years, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations so far reveal that gunshots were heard this morning sometime between six and seven am and thereafter somebody passed through the small feeder road and found his body.”
Flowers’ body was found by a friend who usually joins him at this shortcut where they walk out to the road together. He was found kneeling over with his head touching the ground. He was still in that position when we got to the scene. Residents say they heard one single gunshot at around seven o’clock.
“I was at work. My cousin called and told me to come home right now because something happened. So I called my sister and they came and brought me up here. It had happened from after seven according to people out here because he left from home seven to come to work. And look how long they have he out deh. The sergeant come twenty to nine. I come way from Belize and I reach yah before he. Lot a shooting happen up yah and the Policeman they noh budge. They noh budge. All they do da listen to pipple business and know who deh play with who and who noh deh play with who. Fu do dey job they noh do dey job. I just wah they find who kill my husband. That all I have fu tell dey.”
So who would want to kill forty year old Kevin Flowers? He’s no stranger to the law and has spent time behind bars. But he’d been living in the community with his wife for ten years, and she says that at least in this moment of grief, she can’t figure out who would want to take his life.
“He da straight from work to home. He noh even come out. Straight from work to home, from home to work he goh. That’s all he do.”

“He had any beef with anybody in the village?”

They prefer mind minor problems than deal with the big ones up yah. I understand up yah had big gunshot last night and they seh no Police show up again.”
