Alleged Child Predator Cannot Teach In Belize Again

A Mopan Technical high school teacher, who was accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a male student, has been dismissed from his job. Today, Minister of Education, Patrick Faber told News Five that following investigations from the Managing Board of the school, the Teaching Services Commission determined that Elito Puc must be removed; the Commission also determined to cancel his teaching license. And according to the minister of education, Puc will no longer be able to teach in Belize.

“As far as I understand it, the matter had been reported to the board which I want people to understand is the proper procedure. The matter is a matter that first should be handled by the school’s managing authority whenever issues some up. Not only that issue, any issue at all that you have with the school that is of a nature like that. The managing authority then makes decisions and I want people to understand as well; the managing authority, the board in this case, is a representative group so it is made up of ministry officials, it’s made up of community officials, parents, the alumni representatives so that it is a body that is fully representative of that community that will make that decision. So where that body fails to act, that is where you will find the ministry making a more active stands in the entire matter. In this issue, the ministry did not have to do that; we believe that the managing authority made the right decision. And that decision was forwarded to the TSC for its approval. Of course the Chief Education Officer then made the decision to revoke the license of the individual.”
