Mix Up with Cuban Nationals in Benque Viejo

An interesting case came up today in the Benque Viejo Magistrate Court. It involves six Cuban nationals, three men and three females, who were detained two weeks ago in the general area of the Mayan site Xunantunich, Cayo District.  According to reports, the Cubans were initially remanded for illegal entry but when they appeared in court on May fourteenth, the Cubans maintained that they were not in Belizean territory even though a Belize patrol had detained them. Rather than further remanding them, it was decided to put them up on in a private house where they remain tonight, expenses paid by the taxpayers. The house, we are told, belongs to a senior custom officer.
