Patrick Faber on Hulse’s Leaked Recording
As we told you earlier, Melvin Hulse has retracted comments he made about the prime minister and earlier today, he followed up with a resignation as U.D.P. standard bearer in Stann Creek West. It was not exactly unexpected because internally in the U.D.P., Hulse could no longer expect support financially or otherwise. One senior U.D.P. area rep., Patrick Faber says Hulse’s remarks are damaging to the party. Faber made the remarks this morning before the resignation.
Patrick Faber, U.D.P. Area Rep.
“As the prime minister has said, Melvin Hulse will have to explain that. I certainly for the record have not received any funds to assist in any campaign. Yes I am assisting in the Dangriga campaign and I go down there when my schedule permits to assist in the house to house campaign. As a good party official that is expected of me and I am doing that, but no I am not the head of that campaign—not financial wise or any other way.”

“So what’s your political opinion of what he said against the prime minister in terms of Petrocaribe, in terms of monies being transferred?”
Patrick Faber
“Clearly much of what he said is not substantiated and in fact Mister Hulse himself has now offered the prime minister and apologies and all those others who he offended. He has apologized for it and I can’t say this is not something that happens. This is quite understandable to a large extent, but when you say things, you have to be able to substantiate them and clearly this was just his view, maybe at the time. Maybe he was upset, I don’t know his frame of mind when he said these things, but that’s a question better put to Mister Hulse, as I’m sure you’ve done.”

“Do you feel this has damaged the reputation of the United Democratic Party?”
Patrick Faber
“It certainly affects us and I believe the apology is very important. For some people in some corners, they want to see things like this and for them it is neither here or there if there is truth behind it. They see it coming from a standard bearer in our party, they have jumped on that. No matter how much Mister Hulse makes the case that this is something that is substantiated; he was just talking off his head on this issue and it was not geared towards the public. There are people who will pick it up and try to make further mischief for the prime minister.”
Yah Faber, believe you! If Hulse said something is because its true, that’s a fact.
Hulse have my support!
No constituency should be punished because their leader spoke out about what he thinks was correct and in my humble opinion he was correct. The money that is being spent on securing another seat that means nothing in terms of control of the government is a waste. The country would have benefited much more by using that money to revamp the lands department or hiring more police officers and/or revamping that department too.
Disagreeing with the PM in principle should never be reason to punish another elected official. The people lose again! The only leaders who gets the support of every member of their party are those leaders in communist countries and countries that are lead by barbaric leaders.
Hell with the Part let’s learn to put the country first!
