Senator Shoman on Petrocaribe Tacos

And there is no debate of Petrocaribe without the now famous ‘tacos and beer’ trip to Corozal. Well, in the senate, Senator Godwin Hulse justified the use of Petrocaribe funds for the “free trip”- which, you may know by now, has been publicly condemned by many as irresponsible use of the funds. And it was no laughing matter for Senator Shoman when Hulse basically endorsed the use of funds for the Collet division trip by Patrick Faber. And unlike how tacos are served, on Wednesday she served her words cold inside the Senate.

“Drink beer and eat tacos does not constitute social and community assistance to the poor, socially marginalized and other sectors of the community, because if that is your vision of how you are going to help the poor and socially marginalized in this country, then the poverty is yours. You have a poverty of vision, you have a poverty of planning and you don’t understand how to lift people out of the misery and the hardship of their lives. I am sorry for anyone who thinks that beer and tacos is the way to lift people out of the poverty of their lives. Cold like that. Cold like that.”
